KARA MILLER

I am a proud educator in my 30th year in the field, with 20 of those years spent as a principal. My journey in education has taken me through various roles, including instructional assistant, substitute teacher, teacher, assistant principal and principal. Each of these experiences has  enriched my understanding and made me a better administrator.

Family is incredibly important to me. I am married and have two wonderful sons. My husband, who is also in education, and I have been married for almost 30 years. Together, we have built a fulfilling life. Our oldest son is an attorney in New York, while our youngest son is a Senior Account Executive for a payroll software company in Indiana. He is married to a lovely young lady who holds a master’s degree in BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analysis), and they are excitedly expecting their first child in December. My family truly means the world to me.

From a young age, I aspired to be a teacher, driven by a desire to help others learn. Throughout my teaching career, I encountered inspiring principals who motivated me to pursue a leadership role myself. I believe that teaching is not only a challenging job, but also one of the most crucial professions for shaping our children and future.

At Indian Village, we cultivate a caring school community that collaborates to support our students. Our wonderful PTA and dedicated volunteers, many from First Wayne Street United Methodist Church, play a vital role in enriching our school environment. We partner with the Literacy Alliance, which provides twelve volunteers who work with students in grades 1 through 3 to enhance their reading skills. We also have volunteers who assist during school hours and at special events, such as Robotics.

In my personal time, I enjoy traveling, reading, listening to music and podcasts, baking, and exercising. I am committed to learning and staying updated on the latest best practices in education.

I take great pride in being part of Fort Wayne Community Schools, the largest school district in Indiana. This district offers an abundance of resources and opportunities, making it a fantastic place for students, teachers, and families alike. My passion lies in empowering our teachers to be their best, ensuring that our students achieve success.
